Savant, originally Executive Performance Systems, was established in
1987 by Jim Cawley as a software development company specializing in
consulting services, system design and programming with an initial
emphasis on executive information systems. In the early 1990’s Savant
developed a UNIX based, customized warehouse management solution for
a large meat producer. With the success of this project and a solid
relationship with key industry vendors, Savant spent the next few years
implementing custom UNIX based WMS solutions throughout the mid-tier
market space.
In 1997 and in response to shifts in the market, Savant
began development work on the Savant WMS solution. The goal was to
create a Microsoft-centric solution filling a void in existing Tier
2 and 3 solutions. By 1999, the Savant WMS was being implemented at
distribution centers worldwide.
In the mid 1990s,
Savant developers teamed up with Symbol Technology developers to
create Symbol's first
radio frequency interface for the Microsoft server platform. The interface tool was
built using Microsoft C++ and Visual Basic.
